Applied Medical Visualizations has developed a visual display system that can be used to accurately model the concentration and effect of anesthetic drugs administered alone and in combinations. This drug modeling system uses established Pharmacokinetic (Pk) and Pharmacodynamic (Pd) models to provide the clinician with the ability to visualize past and present states of sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation. The clinician can also see the future status of these drug concentrations and the predicted effects of these drugs on the patient up to 15 minutes into the future. Analogous to a flight-path display for an airline pilot, the Pk/Pd display helps an anesthesiologist in the operating room to anticipate when levels of medication are adequate to relieve pain during surgery and accurately predict when the patient will wake up from the sedatives.
The Medvis PkPd display presents the clinician a total picture of the anesthetic case by intuitively visualizing the concentrations, effects and synergisms of sedative, analgesic and paralytic agents. This complete picture and allows the clinician to see into the future and anticipate changes to minimize adverse events and optimize patient safety.
